“Blondes can look hot in black or they can be totally overpowered and lost in it,” Kirsh says. Pairing black clothing with the right accessories and makeup can make the difference. Here are Kirsh’s tips for making basic black work for blondes:

Cool blondes should wear smoky gray eyeshadow, dusty rose blush and a raspberry stain on the lips. They should also throw on a fabulous scarf in a great cool blonde color (see slide 2 for a refresher) to bring out the color in their skin. Silver earrings or a silver necklace will have the same affect.

Warm blondes should go for bronzy eyeshadows, coral blush and a warm, salmon pink on the lips. The best accessories include gold necklaces and earrings or beige-toned pearls (note the gold jewelry sewn on Lively’s dress, totally perfect for her). A killer piece of turquoise jewelry (especially if you’re a warm blonde with blue eyes) can also look amazing.
