Oscar Blandi didn’t always work on A-list clients, like Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie, and Jessica Biel. At the age of 14, Blandi started cutting hair at his father’s salon in Naples, Italy — along with his brothers and sister. (Talk about a family affair.) After perfecting his craft, Blandi moved onto other salons throughout Europe, finally landing in New York City, and opening his first salon in the Plaza Hotel on Madison Avenue.

These days, stars clamor to get his $600 cut. And unlike some other iconic hairstylists, Blandi doesn’t have a dramatic signature look. “Each cut requires a unique technique,” he says. “But I think most women can pull off a medium length cut — which sits at or below the shoulders — and I love to frame the face with long bangs.”
