Sexy Makeup Tips for Blue Eyes

OK, can we just take a moment to appreciate how many shades of blue eyes there are in Hollywood? We found sapphire (Angelina Jolie), topaz (Malin Akerman), teal (Sarah Jessica Parker), turquoise (Charlize Theron), ice blue (Cate Blanchett), slate blue (Emily Blunt), Cameron Diaz, Megan Fox, Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel, … we could go on and on, but we think you get the picture.

So you can imagine how hard it was to pick out some faves for this gallery of makeup tips for blue eyes. It caused quite the debate in the office, a few people still aren’t speaking to each other.

In fact, it was so hard, we sacrificed the “Don’t” slides to squeeze in another look. (We know, we suck.) But this means we can cut to the chase now. Here are your blue-eyed makeup “Don’ts” — straight from celebrity makeup artists like Fiona Stiles (she did Madonna), Molly Stern (Amy Adams and Reese Witherspoon) and Gregory Arlt (Sienna Miller):

1. Don’t rush to put blue eyeshadow on; it can take away from blue eye color instead of enhancing it. Same with green liner on your “waterline.” Fun game: Hold paint chips from the hardware store up to your eyes and see what happens to your eye color in the mirror. You may find that a blue that’s not the dominant shade of your eye, like a navy if your eye is turquoise, looks pretty snazzy.

2. Under 30? Rock bright colors while you still can. Over 30? Ditch ’em for muted, semi-shimmery shades. (Darn fine lines.)

3. Going for a dramatic eye? No bright lipstick … unless you WANT to look like you’re starring in Cabaret? This goes for every eye color.

Now bust out your makeup kit and behold the “Do’s.”
