Tarte Easy Crease Eyeshadow Brush

Get a precisely-applied pop of color

Good rule of thumb: where you apply your bright eyeshadow and how much depends on your eye shape. Here’s how to do it:

1. Use an eyeshadow brush with soft bristles like Tarte Easy Crease Eyeshadow Brush, $24, instead of a sponge-tip applicator, to apply powder to your lids.

2. If you have deep-set eyes (you see very little if any of your lids when your eyes are open), apply bright shades of shadow to both your upper and lower lashlines, otherwise the color will get lost.

3. If you can see your upper lids easily when your eyes are open, apply shadow from your lash line up to the crease.

4. If you have prominent lids that are very noticeable when your eyes are open, apply a bright-colored eyeliner like Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes, $17 to upper and lower lashlines instead of covering the entire area in a bold shadow (which can look overpowering on large lids).
