Always start with a good base

No matter what hot color you choose, create a base so your eyeshadow shade stays true to its hue when applied. Here's how:

1. Concealer helps even out your skin tone. "If you have discoloration or darkness on your lids, it will change the shade of the eyeshadow," Macki says.
2. Apply a few dots of your usual concealer (or try Clinique All About Eyes Concealer, $15.50) to each eyelid.
3. Use your fingertips to blend it in from lash line to brows.
