Pick a pricier powder eyeshadow over inexpensive creams.

1. When creating colorful eye looks, choose powder eyeshadows (mineral or not) over cream. "Products that are cream based won't last as long as powders because oils from your skin or moisture will make them wear off faster," Macki says.
