Are You Using the Right Mascara?

If your lashes don't look naturally gorgeous, you might need to find another mascara

Have you ever dreamt about your eyelashes falling out? I think that would be the Worst. Nightmare. Ever. Every woman craves thick, luxurious lashes (because who doesn't want show-stopping eyes?), and it would be kind of hard to get them without any lashes period.

Then I found out that using the wrong kind of lash mascara can actually make your lashes fall out. That probably jolted me awake more than dreaming about it could. I always used to buy any type of mascara without looking to see if the formula was right for my lashes. So not happening anymore.

If you're wondering how mascara can make your lashes fall out, check it out:

• If you have delicate lashes and you use a waterproof mascara, you are probably more aggressive when you take it off at night, which could lead to irritating and breaking your lashes.

• If you use a formula that contains unnatural ingredients or chemicals that weaken or make your lashes more brittle, they are more likely to fall out.

• If you have super long lashes, you need to be using a mascara with a strengthening formula, since long lashes tend to break at the tips.

Sound like something that could happen to you? Yep, that's why it's time to find a new mascara. To make it easier to find the best formula for your unique lashes, I spoke to celebrity makeup artist Chuck Hezekiah to find the best mascara to make your eyes stand out. It sounds impossible, what with all of the eye makeup options out there, but it's actually super easy -- once you pinpoint your biggest lash issue and tell us what you're looking for.

So take the quiz to find out whether you should be looking for the best lengthening mascara or maybe the best waterproof mascara. And since we shared our favorite tips (and totally just saved your lashes from eternal destruction), we'd love for you to leave your favorite eye makeup tips in the comments below.

Kathleen Marie Hall (Sat, 13 Aug 2011 13:43:32 -0700): What mascara can I use? Most of them make my eyes swell, itch, and burn?
Kathleen Marie Hall (Sat, 13 Aug 2011 13:44:31 -0700): In fact even the hypo-allergenic ones like Almay do this?
Tom Shaeffer (Sat, 13 Aug 2011 14:29:38 -0700): I use a mascara primer whenever I do use mascara. I won't wear mascara without the primer first. It helps moisturize my lashes.
Deb Bomar (Tue, 24 Jan 2012 09:54:39 -0800): I will try this new mascara.
Kathleen Marie Hall (Sat, 28 Jan 2012 12:30:26 -0800): Why will no one answer my question? Is it that no one there knows? It's ok not to know. But rude not to answer! Is there a mascara that is hypo-hypo made by a doctor, so that I can wear Mascara again. My lashes are thin, and short, and I would really love to wear it again like I used to when I was in my teens. I am now almost 60.
