No. 10: Mini Backpacks

Between baggy pants and sky-high platform sneakers, everything was bigger in the ’90s … except for the backpacks. Tiny backpacks burst onto the scene in the mid-’90s after Alicia Silverstone’s character in “Clueless” sported one. Practically speaking, they didn’t make much sense. Your textbooks could never fit into a mini backpack. You’d be lucky to stuff a fuzzy pen into one. But anything that small has to be adorable, right?

Confession:
“I was obsessed with Cher Horowitz from ‘Clueless,’ and I did my very best to copy her style … down to the faux fur tiny backpack. It didn’t really work well for school, but I dragged that bag nearly everywhere, and kept it stuffed with Lip Smackers, jelly bracelets, and Spice Girl trading cards.” — Cassie W.
