Gwen Stefani: Style Evolution

Harajuku here I come

What can a style fan glean from this look? In a word: Nothing (sorry). “It was a costume she wore to promote her album, and it was part of a weird little trend,” Bloch says. “It was like Minnie Mouse meets Olive Oil meets French Maid meets cartoon character.” This is a strictly-for-costume-parties get-up for us normal gals.

“I remember she would drag a group of Harajuku girls everywhere with her; it started to get a little annoying.” (Harajuku girls are trendy young women in a section in Tokyo whose street fashion is influenced in part by anime, hip-hop, punk, Hello Kitty, and Lolita — but it isn’t about sex.) Stefani put her own stamp on the look because she made it sexy, but in true Stefani fashion, she keeps it rated PG.
