How to Mix and Match Prints

Tip No. 4: Find a color in your print, and match it

If you don’t want to stick to the same multiple color scheme, look at your first printed piece and find a color in it. Then, make sure that color can be found in your second printed piece. “As long as you’re pulling the same colors out of the other print, it’ll work,” says Polk. Remember, it’s not about being “matchy matchy,” but the common hue ensures that the two pieces go together.

For example, if you’re wearing a shirt with a tribal pattern that has yellow in it, you could wear it with a pair of plaid pants that also has yellow in it. “This will highlight and complement both prints at the same time,” says Inlander.
