Hair Dare: 1 Girl, 7 Styles

Day 2: What do you call a mix between a ponytail and a bun? A bunnytail

OK, I admit it: this style is an accident. I play around with the idea of an updo, but I can’t decide between a ponytail and a bun. Why not both? And that’s how the bunnytail is born. (I want to officially trademark that name, btw.)

1. I start by curling the bottom half of my hair with a 1-inch curling iron to give it some texture. I don’t want it to get too curly, so I just wrap a few sections around the barrel for about eight seconds.

2. I pull all of my hair to the back of my head to create a ponytail. I’m going for a “less than perfect” vibe, so I use my fingers. While holding the pony in one hand, I use my other hand to push the bottom of the pony upward to create a bump in the middle. I wrap an elastic around the bump to create an instant bun, but leave the ends hanging out.

3. Because the look is so “rough,” I decide to blow dry my bangs to smooth them out and balance things a bit. I wrap them around a round brush, hit them with heat from my blow dryer, and sweep them to the side using Dunton’s technique: “over, forward, down.”

4. I finish by misting my updo with flexible-hold hairspray.
