Our verdict: Worth buying

Why: Those pesky lines you’re trying to get rid of by using your eye cream religiously? They’re actually made worse (and sometimes even caused) by the sun. And the skin around your eyes is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of your face, which means “sun damage and melanoma can form a lot quicker,” says Marissa Nemes, Miami-based celebrity makeup artist.

That’s why you should use an eye cream with SPF in it. In fact, “the more creams with SPF that are used [in that area], the better the coverage and protection,” says Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Gina Danesh. Just make sure you re-apply any products containing SPF every few hours, “due to the break-down and absorption of the chemicals,” says Danesh. Note: you’re not re-applying the eye cream for the actual eye cream factors, but merely for the SPF to be effective throughout the day, she says.
