Get Mod: ’60s Style

Beehive

A ’60s style beehive is a great way to get a ton of volume, but update the look by leaving it slightly imperfect. This will give the ‘hive a soft, romantic vibe, but still feel retro at the same time. Celebrity hairstylist and owner of Hairroin Salon Janine Jarman tells us how to get the look:

1. Apply a generous amount of Sebastian Mousse Forte, $16, to damp hair and then blow dry completely.

2. Roll your hair in large hot rollers and let set for about 35 minutes. This will give your hair extra volume. Remove rollers.

3. Divide your hair into two sections from ear to ear across the top of your head. Clip the front section to keep it out of the way for now.

4. Brush the back section of your hair into a high French twist, pulling the ends into the crown of your head. Slide large bobby pins down through the fold of the twist, attaching them firmly to the back of your head. Spray with a hairspray like, Sebastian Shaper Fierce, $16.

5. Next, take the front section of your hair and backcomb using a fine tooth teasing comb. Your hair doesn’t have to be perfectly smooth. A few frizzies will give it a cool, imperfect vibe. Pull this section together and back into the top of your French twist. Secure with bobby pins.

6. Finish with a final, light spritz of hairspray.
