From the outside, New York Fashion Week seems like non-stop glamour and fun, right? Well, that’s not technically true. Sure, there are plenty of both, but there are also lots of weird/gross/decidedly-un-glam things happening too. And of course, that’s the fun stuff to hear about, right?
That’s why we put together 9 things you never knew about Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Based on our adventures backstage at Fashion Week in February 2011, we’ve dug up the good, the bad and the ugly just for you.
If, after reading these crazy fashion week secrets you still want to make the trek to Lincoln Center in New York, here are a few tips to survive in style:
1. Wear comfortable shoes. Seriously, you’ll be on your feet all day, running from show to show so you need shoes you can stand in for hours. That is, unless you’re planning on being chauffeured from show to show and snagging a front row seat, in which case you can totally rock some massive heels.
2. Keep your camera handy. You never know what crazy sight you’ll see backstage (like hot pink poodles or a model actually eating a sandwich, both spotted this season) so it’s good to be prepared.
3. Work on your fashionista attitude. You’ll meet plenty of nice people at Fashion Week, but you’ll also encounter plenty of better-than-you ‘tude, so have your “I’m too cool” sneer ready just in case.
