What to Wear: Your Summer Job

The professional office job

Yes, it’s summer, but only 1/4th of you should be bare skin in an office environment (especially if you’ve got the air conditioner blasting), Roberts says. If you’re going to wear a skirt or dressy shorts, “pay attention to the hem length” and throw a crisp blazer on top, say Zangardi and Haenn. And if you wear a sleeveless blouse, pair them with long slacks. “It’s all about making sure your proportions are right,” Roberts says.

It’s also important that your shoes add some structure to your outfit, Roberts says. Stick to heels, pumps and sandals with straps (and make sure your toes are well-manicured). Do note that some offices don’t allow open-toed shoes — so if no one else is wearing them, you shouldn’t either.
