Tip no. 6: Re-think your cover up

A great cover up will transition your look from day to night, so you want it to make a bold statement. One way to do this is by bringing a romper — a light, loose one-piece suit that’s meant to be worn in public. “They’re trendy, easy to put on over your swimsuit, and a terry version will help soak up any extra moisture and avoid embarrassing wet spots,” says Rygorsky.

Tunic tops with detailed necklines also make great cover ups. “Just look for one that’s long enough to cover your bottom and that is opaque enough to provide coverage when you’re walking out in the sun,” says Rygorsky. Want to kick it up a notch? Try a crocheted tunic. “I love that it’s vintage-looking,” says Wolford.

If you really want to go with something different, you can even borrow your boyfriend’s oversized plaid shirt and wear it as a new shirtdress, says fashion stylist Stacy Cox. “Just add a skinny belt to bring it in at the waist, roll up the sleeves, and voila!”
