When wearing bright eyeshadow, choose a subtle highlighting shade, like Rihanna did here (we’d skip the bright red lip though, not so subtle).

1. “Go bright in one part of the eye only, otherwise the look won’t be modern — it’ll look like an 80s prom,” Macki says.



2. Apply a neutral eyeshadow (like a light beige or a shade that’s a little lighter than your skin tone), from the crease of your lid up to the brow bone to open eyes and make them look alert.



3. Be sure to keep your eyes open as you apply the highlighting shade to keep it from settling into the crease.
