Tip No. 5: Use prints to draw the eye where you want it to go
Another great thing about mixing prints? It’s easy to use them to flatter your body type, because patterns naturally catch the eye. The trick is to wear a bright, playful print over the area you want to draw attention to, says Polk. On the flip side, keep the print simple and muted on the body parts that you want to downplay, says Rygorsky.
“You also want to make sure that the larger of the prints is on the body part you are trying to highlight, and the smaller print is on the area from which you are trying to deflect attention,” says Inlander. Small-busted? Wear a thick striped tank and a muted skirt with tiny florals. Love your legs? Wear a vibrant printed miniskirt with a darker print top.
