Stylish Ways to Wear Dirty Hair

Get on the hippie train

The hair around your face looks the greasiest after skipping a wash, so the best way to hide that is to pull back the sides of your hair, says Alejandra. Before you do this, apply a tiny amount of baby powder to your scalp to absorb some of the oil (this works best if you have blonde hair, dark hair can use dry shampoo), says Blandi. Here’s how Alejandra says to get the look:

1. Start by parting your hair down the center. Take a 1-inch section of hair from each side, and braid both sections toward the back of your head.

2. Tie the two braids together with a thin elastic. If your hair isn’t long enough for the two braids to reach each other, just secure each braid to the side of your head with bobby pins for the same effect.

3. You can experiment with smaller and larger sections of hair to create a more delicate or chunkier style. If you want, you can place flowers or sparkly beads sporadically throughout the braid. Or you can also take a piece of grosgrain ribbon and braid it in with your hair, says Radcliff.

4. To finish, mist the bottom half of your hair with spray gel and scrunch it for a dirty, grungy, boho vibe, if your hair isn’t already doing that on its own.
