With her long, curly brown hair, Rooney Mara was just another pretty girl you may not have been able to pick out of the Hollywood crowd. This fit perfectly with her role as Mark Zuckerberg’s ex-girlfriend in “The Social Network.”

Not long after, Mara did a complete 180 when she won out the coveted role of Lisbeth Sandler in the American version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” In promotional material, Mara emerged with a jet black, short asymmetrical cut — not to mention a ghost-like complexion and loads of piercings. She embraced the new look, walking the red carpet with heavy blunt bangs and a memorable style that definitely set her apart from other rising starlets.
