The type of hat you wear can make a big difference in the way your hair looks after you take it off. If it’s possible, look for a hat with a satin or silk liner. Knitted material is OK, but rougher knits can cause friction that can make hair frizzy. If your favorite hat is made of rougher material (like wool), don’t worry — “just wear a silk scarf under your hat to create a barrier between your hair and the hat,” says Buzas.

Also, since hats squish the hair and create heat (which can cause indentations), look for a hat that is roomier near the crown to give your hair breathing room. Fedoras, straw hats, and bowler hats are some of the best choices in this case.
