My date last night went well (of course), and he’s coming to watch my band perform tonight. This is one of the trickier looks the stylists showed me, but I decide tonight’s the perfect occasion to try it. It takes all morning, but the result is pretty impressive, if I do say so myself.

1. First, I apply a large amount of Pureology Colour Stylist SilkBodifier Mousse, $24 to my hair. I let it dry for a few minutes to give my hair some hold before styling.



2. I wrap small sections of hair around a 1-inch curling iron out away from my forehead. This is how I end up with a mass of textured curls. (I’ll be honest, at this point, I’m wondering if I did this right. But I keep going.)



3. I spritz this front section with some water, and I use a comb to shape it upward, brushing out the curls.



4. Holding the pompadour in place with my hands, I mist it with a ton of strong-hold hairspray until it’s stiff enough to stay up by itself.
