Got the Blues?

Blue eyeshadow isn’t too far off from your traditional black. OK, maybe a little, but stay with us. According to Daoud, “Blue eyeshadow looks great on every skin tone.” And it also works with all skin tones, says Maderich. “I’ve used it on everyone from pale-skinned blondes to dark chocolate skin tones.” He especially likes Nars Matte Eyeshadow in Outremer, $24.

But the ultimate rule to wearing blue eyeshadow has to do with confidence and a heavy application. “If you’re going to wear it, you should own it,” says Maderich. “You don’t want to go wishy washy with this color. Just make sure to blend it to get a smooth finish.” Try out the blue eyeshadow trend with these color recommendations:

Fair skin tones: Instead of going for a fully covered lid, try using your eyeshadow as an eyeliner. Simply wet your brush and follow your lashline. Or you could just buy a bright blue eyeliner like Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil in Electric, $19.

Medium skin tones: On your upper lid, pack on the blue eyeshadow, but make sure to smudge the shadow underneath your eye. This will help soften the entire look.

Darker skin tones: Try this edgy look: Apply a taupe eyeshadow on your entire lid, then swipe electric blue shadow in the inner corners. The blue will take the place of a highlight.
