May’s Hot Trend: Bright Nails

What is May’s hottest trend? Bright, decorated nails.

The best thing about this trend? You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a jacket or dress you’ll only wear once or hobble around in pain while wearing the must-have heels. Nope, with this trend you just need to drop a couple bucks on some bright nail polish or some pre-done fake nails (Broadway Nails has tons of crazy-hot fake nails or kits to create your own nail art). A few minutes and you’ll be rocking the new trend for May.

If you need some inspiration, check out the celebrities we found wearing the trend. From Jessica Alba’s candy-colored fingers to Beyonce’s over-the-top nail art, they prove that boring nudes or pinks are so out. And you’ll definitely love the looks on Katy Perry, Eve, Pixie Lott, Lisa Edelstein, Ke$ha, Jennifer Garner, Lauren Conrad and Keke Palmer.

Of course May’s bright nails trend is cheap and easy, but it’s not totally fool-proof, so check out these tips (ha, tips, get it?) to keep your nails looking their best all month long:

1. Always apply a base coat to your nails, especially before using any dark or bright shades. It’ll keep your nails from staining and make it easier to remove once the next nail trend rolls around.

2. When using a neon shade, celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees recommends using a white shade as a base coat. She says it will make the neon polish almost glow — awesome.

3. Get creative and go crazy with these celebrity style nail designs. If you’re not much of an artist you can use fake nails or head to the salon, but try using some toothpicks and tiny paintbrushes and see what you come up with. After all, if you mess up, just swipe some remover and start over, no biggie.
