Try a modern cat eye

“For Claire’s makeup, we put a modern twist on the original ’60s vibe to match the outfit,” says Stacey Ellis, hairstylist from Byu-ti Salon in Santa Monica, Calif. The retro style is known for bold lips, which we kept, and Ellis simply softened the eyes to make it work-appropriate. Here’s how to get Claire’s makeup look:

Face: Start with a foundation that has medium-coverage. “You want it to last all day while you’re at work,” says Ellis. After applying foundation, dust bronzer onto your forehead, nose, and chin for a little extra glow.

Eyes: To get a soft cat eye, apply a light, neutral eyeshadow across your lid, and then dot a shimmery shadow in the corners of your eyes to brighten them up. Using a fine-tipped brush, draw a gel liner across your lash line and flick it outward for some extra flair (Ellis used MAC Fluidline Gel Liner, $15). Apply two coats of mascara, allowing the mascara to dry between each application.

Lips: A glossy red lip will make a bold statement without leaving you feeling too “done up” while at work. Start with a red lipstick (try Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Ruby, $3), and then apply a light gloss on top.
