Sophisticated French Braids

Kourtney Kardashian’s long, thick hair comes in handy with this braided style. It’s a playful look, but Kourtney adds a layer of sophistication by keeping her hair sleek and tight. Celeb hairstylist Stacey Ellis of Byu-Ti Salon in Santa Monica, Calif. shows us how to steal this style.

How to get the look:

1. Apply a blow dry lotion to damp hair and blow it dry using a large round brush to create a smooth, frizz-free finish. Ellis recommends Pureology Antisplit Blowdry Lotion, $28.

2. Apply a small amount of shine polish to your hair in the following way: First, hold your hair like you’re making a ponytail and work the polish from the mid-length of the hair to the ends. Then, apply what’s left on your hands to the top and front to smooth out the hair. Ellis likes Pureology Cuticle Polish, $26.

3. Create a center part in your hair with a comb, splitting the whole head into two sections. French braid the hair one side at a time, starting at the temples so it wraps around the head to just below the crown at the back.

4. Continue braiding the rest of the hair length on each side and secure with a small elastic at the end.

5. Start wrapping the braids into a bun shape at the back of the head, and secure the bun to the head with small bobby pins. Cross the small thinner ends of the braids over the bun and secure.

6. Spray hairspray all over to hold everything in place, then layer with a light mist of shine spray to add even more shine to the hair. Try TRESemme Tres Spray Super Hold Hairspray, $4.50 and AG Hair Cosmetics Spray Varnish High Voltage Shine, $20.
