Hair Dare: 1 Girl, 7 Styles

black hairstyles fake bob

Day 6: Chopping it off — not!

I’m feeling bit adventurous today, so I decide to fake a bob. According to hairstylist Natasha Sunshine, this is a great way get a different length without actually taking the plunge and getting a haircut. Plus, I’ve got a great idea on how to add texture to my updo, which I’m psyched to try.

1. I start by teasing random sections of my hair to add some texture. Then, I braid a few small sections of hair on both sides of my head. You can braid as many sections as you want, just scatter them through your hair so they look more natural.

2. Using my fingers, I bring back all of my hair (including the braids) and loosely twist it into a bun at the nape of my neck. I use bobby pins to secure it in place.

3. When you’re faking a bob, “make sure you leave hair hanging in the front of your face, or else it’ll look too contrived,” says Sunshine. So I pull a few strands out of the bun and let them hang loosely in the front.

4. I shake my hair out and mist all over with lightweight hairspray to finish.
