Weather Proof Your Hairstyle

Weather condition: Wind

Did you know that the wind can actually shred your hair? It’s called wind damage. That’s why “it’s very important to cover your hair with a hat or scarf to protect it from the wind,” says Hawkins. If you do end up getting wind damage, there are some products out there that can temporarily help mend those split ends, says Hawkins. (Try Alterna Hemp Split Ends Reconstructor, $15.) But keep in mind that it really is only temporary; the only way to permanently get rid of the damage is to cut your hair.

“In this case, the best strategy is prevention,” says Hawkins. Apply hair oil before you head out the door (try Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment, $28). It will seal the hair cuticle and protect it from the drying elements, says Segal. And since wind tends to tangle your hair when it’s left uncovered and “fuse it together,” you’ll want to invest in a good de-tangling spray (and a brush with metal bristles — they de-tangle better than boar bristles) for the sake of your hair.
